Going On A Mission Trip Into The Appalachian Mountains Is Life-Changing!
It requires you to sacrifice yourself and your desires for a cause greater than yourself. You’re able to step outside of your own world, learn about a culture deep in the mountains different from your own and serve others, all while fulfilling the Great Commission. Anchor Ridge wants you to encounter God’s heart as you commit to being His hands and feet to the children of the Appalachian Mountains. After showing up in a child's situation, wrapping a warm coat around them and reminding them that they haven't been forgotten about is a life-changing experience we know you'll never forget!
What Can I Expect?
HOTEL: Depending on how far away the event city is, we sometimes leave the day before and stay in a hotel to ensure a good nights rest and good proximity for an early arrival at the event site. The name of the hotel we will be staying at will be announce 30-45 days before the day of the event, along with other travel information. Please call and make your own reservations. Anchor Ridge can help coordinate larger church and youth groups if needed, but anyone who books will receive a lower rate when they mention they are with Anchor Ridge. (average cost: $45-$80, but can be lower if split between 2 or more people)
TRANSPORTAION: Many of our volunteers choose to use their own vehicles for transportation to and from the mission trip. Sometimes there are empty seats in a few of the volunteers cars who are happy to share their seat and split travel costs. Some groups rent vans or buses so they can all travel together.
MEALS: We recommend you bring enough money for breakfast and dinner. Lunch will be provided at the event. We usually find a restaurant big enough for all the volunteers and the Anchor Ridge team to enjoy a meal together and fellowship. (Average cost of meals per person: $30 or less)
SCHEDULE: Anchor Ridge usually arrives at the event venue to start setting up the day of the event around 8am. After the trucks are unloaded, we split up into teams to set up the provision for distribution including car lines, interior and exterior shopping areas and toys areas. We also inflate a bouncy house and start preparing for lunch right away. There is also a team for setting up the stage area for worship. Teams will be divided by personal interest, we want you to serve where you feel most gifted! We usually start serving lunch around 12pm and worship starts at 1pm. Service usually ends within about 1.5 hours and we begin distributing provision to the families.
Before and after service are your personal one-on-one ministry opportunities! Please feel free to encourage children, pray with people and give out as many hugs as possible! Our mission is to bring joy and hope to towns who have none, so remember to smile and welcome each attendee with the love of Jesus! The event usually ends and is cleaned up by 5-6pm, then we head out for dinner and fellowship.
